1.) Where is Thailand situated?
Ans :- Thailand is situated in South East Asia. Thailand is bordered by Laos and Cambodia on the East, the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia on the South and the Andaman Sea on the West.
2.) What is interesting about the Thai Calendar?
Ans :- Chui Bahadwe’s father pointed at the Thai official calendar on the wall based on the Buddhist era. Interestingly, the Thai calender is 543 years ahead of the western calendar, this means the year 2005 A.D. will be considered as 2548 A.D. according to the Buddhist calendar.
3.) Write about some famous places in Thailand?
Ans :- The lovely Khorat Plateau and the highest peak of Thailand ‘Doi Intharion’ which is 2576 metres high situated in the North of the country, the beautiful Chao Praya River runs into the Gulf of Thailand and the narrower Kra Isthmus flows into the Malay Peninsula. These are the some famous places in Thailand.
4.) What is unique about ‘Thai’ food?
Ans :- Thai cuisine is known for its balance of contrasting flavours in every dish – hot (spicy), sour, sweet, salty and bitter tastes. One of the important ingredient is the “Nampla” – very aromatic and strong tasting fish sauce. The layered flavours of Thai food make each dish completely unique.
5.) What does a ‘Thai’ meal consist of?
Ans :- ‘Thai’ meal consists of sweet-smelling Jasmine rice (quite costly), lovely smelling curries, stir-fried items and other dishes cooked with large quantities of chilly, lime juice and lemon grass.
6.) Name some of the important towns in Thailand?
Ans :- Bangkok, the capital city, Nakhon, Rat Chasima, Udon Thai, Kakhon Sawan, Chiang Mai, Surat Thani, Phuket, Hat Yai (songkhla), these are the important towns in Thailand.
7.) What happens during the Elephant Round-up?
Ans :- During the Elephant Rounds-up, Pachyderms (thick skinned animals) play football.
8.) Who was Little Doi Swan?
Ans :- Little Doi Swan was the keeper of the guest house in Thailand.

B.) PREPAR ATION OF VEGETABLE PULAO

Step 1 : Basmati rice and peas are cleaned and washed.
Step 2 : All the vegetables are cut, washed and kept aside. After that the cooker without the lid is placed on optimum heat.
Step 3 : Vanaspati is heated in the cooker and all the ‘garam masalas’ are fried with it. After that, all the vegetables and sugar are added fried for two to three minutes. Thereafter, rice is added and fried till it is slightly brown.
Step 4 : Water is poured and stirred with salt. The lid is placed on the cooker.
Step 5 : Then, a hissing sound is heard within nine minutes. After that, the oven is reduced to medium heat and the cooker is placed on the oven for the three minutes.
Step 6 : The cooker is removed from stove and is allowed to cool for two minutes. Thereafter, lid is removed and the pulao is ready to be served. |
