Ans: – Sarpanch is elected as a panch. Sarpanch is elected by the voters of the whole Gram Panchayat.

(3) How is an upsarpanch elected?

Ans: – All the panchs select any one among themselves as the upsarpanch.

(4) What are the advantages of reservation?

Do you think that there should be reservation for specific group?

Ans: – Reservation is done for that section of the society which is generally poor and weak. Normally they will not be able to win elections and join the process of decision making. It is very essential that they join the decision making process. If they are not given a chance these sections of the society will remain neglected and there will be inequality in the society. Specially ST, SC and OBC and women are given reservation. For their equal position in society there should be reservation for these specific group.

(5) If the panch of your ward wants to get a bridge constructed, what will he have to do?

Ans: – At first his proposal has to passed by the Gram Panchayat. Then he has to sent the proposal to the Block Samiti for budget approval. Once the approved amount is reached to the sarpanch then the panch has to start the work.

Ans: – The four important functions of the gram panchayat are –

(i) Keep the village clean and provide water facility.

(ii) Construct and maintain to roads, bridges, school, buildings.

(iii) Organise the drainage system,, and

(iv) Registration of the marriages, births and deaths.

Ans: – The state and the central governments give money to the Panchayat from perform their functions. The developmental works that the state and the central governments wish to perform at the village level is done through the Panchayat gets that work done. The Panchayat can collect money by levying small taxes too.

Ans: – (i) Without the approval of the Gram Sabha, Panchayat cannot do any work.

(ii) Perform other functions as may be prescribed from time to time.
