1.) Why do you think the poet calls the chess ‘a peaceful game’? Do you accept his view? Why/ why not?
Answer: At the end of the game nobody gets hurt, so the poet calls the chess ‘a peaceful game’. I do accept his view because there is no physical violence involved in the game. One has to play chess with quiet mind and peace so that one wins. One has to be stable in the this game.
2.) Who are the opponents in the game?
Answer: Poet’s family and friends are the opponents in the game.
3.) There are many lines repeated in the poem. Why do you think the poet does so?
Answer: The poet has repeated many lines to give importance to the game and add poetic effect.
