Chemical Reaction

Chemical reaction is a process in which new substance with different properties are formed.

  • Atom of elements don’t change into another elements.
  • Only arrangement of atom takes place in a chemical reaction.

For Example:

  • Reactant:

The substance  which take part in a chemical reaction called Reactant.

  • Product:

The new substance produced as a result by chemical reaction are called Product.

Example:

Characteristics of chemical Reaction:

The conversion of reactant into product in a chemical Reaction is often accompanied  by some  features which can be observed easily. The importance characteristics of chemical reaction are ;

1.) Change in Colour :

In some chemical reaction change  in colour can be observed.

Example:

Copper sulphate solution colour change from  blur to pale green when iron nail is dipped in it. It is displacement type of reaction.

Change in state:

The physical state of the substance is normally change that is in solid, liquid, gas.

Example

The formation of H2 gas from the reaction of solid Zn with liquid H2SO4 Reaction:

Change in temperature:

Most of the reaction are accompanied by temperature change that is increase or decrease in the temperature.  Also known as a exothermic or endothermic reaction

Example:

In the reaction between Zn and H2SO4, flask was found to be warm thus increase or rise in temperature has taken place.

Evaluation of gas:

In some cases gas may be evolved.

Example:

1-Evaluation of Hgas  in the reaction between Zn and dil. HCl.

In the reaction hydrogen gas evolved.

2- evolution of CO2 during burning of any fuel which contains carbon.

Formation of precipitated:

Reaction that results in the formation of insoluble are known as precipitated reaction.

A precipitated is solid product which separate out from the solution during chemical reaction.

Example:

The chemical reaction between potassium iodide  and lead nitrate is characterized by the formation of yellow precipitated.

  1. Aqueous silver nitrate is react with aqueous potassium chloride to give silver chloride of white precipitated.
