(a) Why did the people of Chitolia and the neighbouring villages panic?

Ans- On a certain week it had rained heavily and the water of the river Brahmaputra had risen, people were panicked thinking that it would cause a flood.

(b) What happened when the embankment at Chitolia village was breached?

Ans-Huge waves of the river were washing away the village and its settlements. People took shelter on top of roofs of  chang-ghars while man and animal both were heard screaming and crying in fear and despair.

(c) What action did Khagen and his classmates take to rescue the villagers of Chitolia?

Khagen who was a brave teenager,  decided to help the villagers stuck in the flood. He gathered his friends  and a boat. He made five rafts out of the trunks of banana trees. He and his friends rescued the people who were stranded in difficult  situations due to the flood and moved them to safety. They also managed to provide food and water to the rescued people. Khagen was also quick to save Moni Baidew  when she was drowning.

(d) How did Khagen and Dambaru rescue Dr. Hatibaruah and Moni Baidew?

Khagen somehow managed to reach the doctor’s house and there he found the doctor , Moni and two assistants of the doctor.The boat while travelling took an U turn ,  and due to a sudden undercurrent the boat collapsed and Moni and others were drowning in wat er.  . Up till they reached a hill above the floodwater, he grasped Moni Baidew by the arm and assisted her in staying afloat. Also rescued and brought to the mound was the doctor. Dambaru and the other two men managed to cling to the capsized boat that was on the verge of being washed away. With the tubs secured to the boat, they were also able to remove the water.

(e) Why did the people of the village call Khagen ‘The Prince of Panidihing’?

Khagen was nicknamed the Prince of Panidihing due to his brave actions and courage just like royal princes  were meant to be.
