1) Do you realize the importance of protecting the environment from pollution? Check how much you remember by answering the foil owing questions:

(a) The air mixed with dust and smoke is polluted air. How does the air get polluted in an industrial area?

Answer –The smoke coming out of the chimneys in the industrial area makes air thick with clouds of smoke, this how air gets polluted in the industrial area.

(b) Why do we need clean and fresh air?

Answer – We need clean and fresh air because if polluted air gets into our lungs, we can fall ill. We can’t survive without fresh and clean air.

(c) What happens when the air becomes polluted?

Answer – When air becomes polluted, if polluted air gets into our lungs, we can fall ill and we cannot survive in polluted air.

(d) Why is our environment getting spoilt?

Answer – Smoke coming out of the chimneys in the industrial area, the fumes of cars, buses and trucks also fill the air and makes air dirty, this is how our environment is getting spoilt.

(e) How can we protect our environment?

Answer – We can protect our environment by making people aware of dangers of destroying the world around us and planting more trees.

(f) How do green plants and trees help us and our environment?

Answer – Green plants enrich our air with oxygen. Green plants use the carbon dioxide and gases. In this way green plants and trees help us and our environment.

(g) What steps should we take to keep our environment clean?

Answer – We should make people aware about the dangers of destroying the environment, we should plant more trees, cars should be cleaned regularly to reduce the release the harmful gases and factories must take measures.

(h) How does water become polluted?

Answer – The water is becoming polluted by dumping garbage into the river and waste products from industrial area.

(i) How does soil become polluted?

Answer – Soil is becoming polluted by using to much pesticides and dumping of non degradable and toxic waste products from industrial area.
