1.) Why did Tennyson start writing poems?
Ans: Tennyson, the poet of the poem, “Break Break Break” had a very unhappy childhood with a violent father and to escape from his grief he started writing poetry in his childhood.
2.) Where does the poet ask the sea waves to break?
Ans: The poet asked the sea waves to break on the cold grey stones.
3.) What is the fisherman’s boy doing?
Ans: The fisherman’s boy was shouting at his sister, who was out playing.
4.) What does the poet mean by‘vanished hand?’
Ans: The poet with the word, ‘vanished hand’ meant to depict the hand of his dead friend. He felt the presence of his dead friend whenever he was alone.
5.) Compare the feelings of the poet and other people mentioned in the poem.
Ans: The absence of the poet’s dead friend by his side makes him sad and he laments his loneliness. The mighty waves of the sea reminds the poet about the destructive forces of nature which took his friend away from him. On the other hand, the fisherman’s family his happy, as their work is going very well and the fisherman sings in his boat at the bay.

Ans: These lines are taken from the poem, ‘Break Break Break.’ In the poem the poet says these lines because of the absence of his dead friend by his side makes him sad and he laments his loneliness. The mighty waves of the sea remind the poet about the destructive forces of nature which took his friend away from him.
