Articles Class 3 English Grammar Worksheet Uses of a/an/the, Fill in the blanks, Correct Articles

 

Articles

Note : There are three articles – a, an and the.

  • “A” and “an” are used for singular noun.
  • “A” is used before the verbs starting with consonants.

Example – A tiger, a book, a cat etc.

  • For uncountable nouns (example – bread, milk, water, oil etc.)

 

  • “An” is used before the words starting with vowel (a, e, i, o, u)  or vowel sound.

Example – An egg, an umbrella etc.

  • Some words starts with consonant but they have a vowel sound, such as – an hour, an honest man etc.

  • “The” is used to indicate definite person or thing.

Example – This the new car I told you about.

  • “The” is also used to identify historical monuments, mountains, river, newspaper etc.
